On the Move: with Mark Leonardo
At O2E Brands, we recognize that a company’s greatest asset is often the company it keeps! Welcome to “On the Move”, a series highlighting some of our many incredible people and their unique stories exemplifying moments where we’ve grown Bigger and Better Together. As we place the spotlight on internal growth stories across our organization, we won’t just say “It’s All About People”, we’ll show you.
Meet Mark! He’s a total tech enthusiast and known to be quick on his feet. Mark first began at O2E as a commercial sales agent for 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. He won agent of the month 6 times, agent of the quarter 3 times, and was runner up for agent of the year! He loves breaking records, and has since moved on up to new challenges! We caught up with Mark to see what he’s been up to since joining O2E Brands.
O2E: So Mark, where did you first begin with O2E Brands?
ML: I was a commercial sales agent! I started in November 2019, so it’s been around 2 years now.
O2E: What kind of support did you receive in your role there?
ML: Most of my support came from my team leaders. They provided me with a lot of coaching and opportunities to explore different departments and their roles. I got the chance to work with the E-Team, and even Service Desk before officially starting with them. It gave me the opportunity to explore O2E as a whole and discover a role I’d eventually want to grow into.
O2E: What is your role in Service Desk, and what type of work do you do there?
ML: I’m a support desk specialist. I’m a fixer. O2E as a whole takes on some pretty big projects, and any technical issues or bugs that come up get sent to us, and we figure them out to keep things running as smoothly as possible. It’s a lot of trial and error, so every day is interesting!
O2E: So would you say you were encouraged to grow, not just within but actually beyond the role you first started in?
ML: Yes, exactly! Because of the exposure my team leaders allowed me and supported me with, I got very interested in improving my skills and was encouraged to grow in the company.
O2E: Is there anyone you’ve worked with you would consider a mentor?
ML: My team leader is absolutely a mentor. Shoutout to Felix!
O2E: Did you have any formal education or previous experience related to the role you’re in now?
ML: No actually. I had gone to school for web development and graphic design before starting with O2E, because I’ve always had a lot of interest in computers. But I quickly realized that actually wasn't the field I wanted to get into. I then knew my real passion was in video games, so I went on to playing professionally. I did that for about 8 years, but I hit a point where I wanted to transition out of that. O2E provides a lot of on-the-job training, so as long as you’re wanting and willing to learn, you’ll receive the support you need to get where you want to be!
O2E: What would you say you like most about your new team and its members?
ML: The thing I like the most is I feel everyone works very closely, and everyone’s very supportive to each other. The support I receive in this role is never-ending. Since I am newer to the team there are a lot of processes I’m unfamiliar with, so I’m constantly asking questions, and always feel very supported by my coworkers.
O2E: Is there anything you find different or special about O2E Brands that makes your work here enjoyable?
ML: The biggest thing that stands out to me is the culture, and how well-connected everyone is across the company. Personally, I’m very introverted and don’t usually like a lot of interaction, but everyone here has very positive energy, and it’s definitely had an influence on me. It’s made me actually happy to open up more, and is a place I really enjoy working at every day.
Mark, thank you for sharing your story! We look forward to seeing how you continue to grow personally and professionally. Keep a lookout for more On the Move segments, where we'll continue to share awesome stories of internal growth across O2E Brands!
